Mossley Academy were unfortunate to go down by the odd goal in seven in their latest away venture at Matlock Town on Wednesday afternoon, after conceding twice in the final ten minutes against the run of play.

The Mossley lads 'worked their socks off' against a strong and direct home side and created a number of chances in the opening twenty minutes bringing the best out of home keeper Corey Bulheller.

Antonio Din Chin, Prince Owusu and Connor Yeoman all went close before Mossley opened the scoring on 18 minutes when debutant Declan Lewis scored from close range after Matlock failed to deal with a Mossley set piece.

However, it was set pieces at the other end that were causing much consternation for Mossley and it was from one such instance that Ben Edgson rifled home a powerful equalizer against the run of play just three minutes later.

Unfortunately for Mossley they conceded again on 28 minutes when keeper Hassan Sattar let a long range effort by Matlock right back Travaglione to slip through his grasp and over the line.

Undeterred by the set back, Mossley continued to attack and Prince Owusu was unlucky not to equalize before the break.

Mossley didn't have to wait long after the interval for an equalizer. A fine seven man passing move released the livewire Owusu who finished calmly after opening up the home defence.

Owusu again went close when spotting the keeper off his line but his effort from just inside the Matlock half floated inches wide.

Mossley went in front for the second time in the match on 64 minutes with a fine solo effort by Owusu who superbly chipped the keeper from 25 yards for his sixth goal in three matches.

Matlock went in search of an equalizer but Mossley were still a threat and had chances to wrap the game up with Din Chin and Chukwoma Adelaje both going close while Owusu was again millimeters away from his hat-trick.

However, with nine minutes left on the clock Matlock forced an equalizer through substitute Luke Keen and then with five minutes remaining, Matlock broke quickly from a Mossley corner and Keen found space at the far post to tap home what proved to be the winner despite some late Mossley pressure.
